Isolatie en energie
Warmteverlies
Heat loss in a home occurs through conduction (through building components), ventilation (desired), infiltration (drafts/gaps), and radiation. With a poorly insulated dormer or loft, the loss from these interventions is disproportionately large.

| Type | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Conduction | Heat through constructions; determined by R-values (Rc) and U-values. |
| Ventilation | Intentional air exchange; determined by the ventilation rate. |
| Infiltration | Unwanted airflow through gaps. |
| Radiation | Especially relevant for large glass surfaces and cold surfaces. |
A loft conversion or work on a dormer affects several of these items simultaneously: better insulation, better draft proofing, and controlled ventilation.
