A vapor control layer is applied to the warm side of an insulated construction and limits the transport of water vapor from the inside into the insulation. Without a vapor barrier, vapor penetrates the construction and can condense there.

The vapor barrier is applied directly behind the inner finish and must be continuous. All seams and connections to window frames, walls, and penetrations are taped airtight.
