Slapers bij dakkapel
Sleepers are longitudinal pieces of wood placed on the existing roof structure to distribute the load of a dormer. They form the transition between the dormer and the existing roof.

Without sleepers, the entire load of a dormer would rest on one or two rafters. By using two sleepers — one above and one below the dormer facade — the weight is spread over a number of rafters or purlins, so that no single structural component becomes overloaded.
