Dakopbouwen en nokverhogingen
Wat is een nokverhoging?
A ridge raising is a roof extension where the ridge — the highest line of a pitched roof — is moved upwards. As a result, the standing height on the loft floor increases across the full width.

With a ridge raising, the existing rafters or purlins are extended or replaced, and the ridge beam is positioned at a higher point. The roof slope can remain the same, become steeper, or flatten out — depending on the design.
Relation to a dormer
A dormer works locally: more standing height in one place. A ridge raising works across the full width: more standing height for the entire floor. The intervention is therefore more substantial and almost always requires planning permission.

What is the difference between a ridge raising and a roof extension?
A ridge raising is a specific type of roof extension where the ridge of a pitched roof is positioned higher. A roof extension is the broader term and also includes top additions on a flat roof and other vertical extensions of the roof shape. Is a ridge raising permit-free?
No. A ridge raising changes the main shape of the roof and therefore does not fall under the permit-free regime. A ridge raising almost always requires an environmental planning permit, including an aesthetic review (welstand). How much space does a ridge raising provide?
A ridge raising mainly provides extra standing height over almost the entire loft area. The exact space gained depends on the height of the raising and the original roof slope, but in a traditional residential house, it often bridges the gap between a 'loft' and a 'full-fledged floor'.
