Traditionele dakkapel

A traditional dormer is built on-site on the roof, often by a carpenter alongside other specialists for roofing and cladding. This method offers maximum design freedom and detailed connections.

Method

The carpenter builds the skeleton on site, installs the framework, insulation, sheet material, and window frame. Then comes the roofing, cladding, lead flashing, and interior finish. The work takes a few days to over a week.

Areas of application

Traditional construction is attractive for monumental or iconic buildings, for unusual sizes, or where a crane is difficult to reach. For highly modified architecture — such as with classic mouldings or wooden shutters — traditional construction is also often the only viable option.

Voordelen
  • Complete design freedom
  • No crane needed, making it suitable for hard-to-reach roofs
  • Detailing can be tailored to the existing architecture
Nadelen
  • Longer construction time, more inconvenience
  • Quality strongly depends on the individual craftsman
  • Often higher labour costs
